Books

Since amazon wishlist is not long enough (ha!) I need book recommendations. Actually it really has nothing to do with my own wishlist – I read almostly exclusively non-fiction – this is for Michael. I order books for him to read but my knowledge of fiction beyond the classics might as well be non-existant.

So I beseach thee, recommend me fiction!

Michael is a Stephen King and Isaac Asimov lover whereas I am more of an Lilian Braun (The Cat Who… mystery series) and Jules Verne person. Which really leaves the field open to sci-fi, mysteries, thrillers, drama, fantasy…

What are some books you love and recommend?

    Amazon is set up really well for recommendations. Dig up a dozen or more of his favorite books, find them on Amazon, check them as “I own this” and opinion (sometimes the checkmark section is further down the page). After you have a few in there, Amazon will start recommending books that are highly rated. You may want to start a different account under his name to get clean recommendations for HIS type of reading without blending the algorithm with your purchases. It has worked really well for us.

    Thanks! Though I already use that option, I just wanted recommendations Amazon might be missing since I we don’t like to strikely stick to one type of book.

    Wolf has the same taste in books as Michael. Some of his favorite authors are John Sanford, Dan Brown, Brian Lumley, Michael Crichiton, HG Wells, Richard Preston.

    We are selling a bunch of his books on Amazon (under n1obium) to fund my law school education. (hint hint)

    I *love* the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever by Stephen R. Donaldson but they’re a tough read.

    Sorry, but I am pretty much a classics junkie.

    If he likes the Foundation Trilogy (which is actually about six or ten books long by now), I think he’d like:

    “The Mote in God’s Eye” and “The Gripping Hand” by Pournelle and Niven;

    Any of the Dorsai / Childe Cycle books by Gordon Dickson;

    and if you really want to take a leap at the semi-unknown, well, Asimov was one of the sci-fi authors I started with reading (I even met him once and got a book autographed by him), you can find the list of sci-fi fantasy books I’ve read – and mostly liked ;> – here.
