Don Imus

I don’t know how many people have heard about this deal with Don Imus getting suspended for calling the Rutgers University women’s basketball team a bunch of “nappy-headed hos.” He has been suspended for two weeks. Believe it or not, I am about to defend him.

I think everyone is completely over-reacting to this shock jock. Don Imus’s job is to get under peoples skin; to push their buttons as well as push the limits of what is allowed on public radio. Sure, he is an complete asshole and his comment was rude and derogatory – but a lot of his comments are. Would he get suspended for two weeks for calling a white woman a ho? Probably not. His job is to piss people off. Looks like he has succeeded. I am sure when he returns from his suspension his listener group will have grown exponentially. Any publicity is good publicity isn’t it?

Personally I will probably never listen to Don Imus, I do not enjoy shock jocks. I do not enjoy people insulting other people. I do not like being angry. But I think every person of any race who has ever made a racist comment or laughed at or told a discriminatory joke is equally guilty. I know I am not racist and yet I am completely guilty of the occasional laugh at such comments. Political correctness is one of this country’s biggest problems, it teaches us to sugar coat, twist phrases and lie.

So my question is, why don’t we get this pissed off every time some raper talks about smacking around his “bitches and hos”, isn’t that sexist? Why don’t we get angry when some black dj calls some white guys a “cracker”, isn’t that racist as well? This double standard should not exist. Are we too afraid to turn the tables on this whole debate?

I haven’t been paying a huge amount of attention to the whole deal, but I definitely agree with your views.

    This statement is pure win.

    What’s funny is, I agree.

It’s especially funny, since anywhere I go, it’s racist for me to joke about a “spick” or a “nigga” (exact words), even if they’re my friends and THEY laugh, but when you hear “you’re white” or “cracker” from anyone who isn’t caucasian, it’s not racism at all, even if they are trying to insult you.

    Whee, Amuricuh.

I haven’t heard anything about this. I guess the guy has a right to say what ever he wants. But why? Oh well you are right, ratings will go up.

LOL! Rapper! Not Raper! ……. Wait, on second thought, you got it right the first time. ;-)

Why can’t we say spear-chucker or junglebunny without getting in trouble while they can use cracker and white boy and stereotype us constantly? “Double, meet Standard. Standard meet Double.” “Hi Standard! Let’s be friends!”

If you think the US is bad then look at the UK. They renamed a school performance of the “Three Little Pigs” to the “Three little cats” or something so as not to offend Muslims. And don’t forget all the Imans and idiots that get to say “Death to Europe” while the judge who mentions something about “damn foreigners” gets 3 months of tolerance camp. (True)

I never heard of Don Imus. We have a small talk radio show which basically plays Rush Limbaugh, Laura Irgram and Doctor Laura.
So I hardly listen to our local radio only if I’m some were else and they have our local radio station on.

Bigotry is not a good thing.

To begin with, I don’t like shock jocks either, nor am I big on people calling each other “bitches”,” hos”, and the whatnot. However…

As much as I hate to admit it, after I read what that guy called the Rutgers University women’s basketball team I thought,

“…(pause)…That’s it? He got suspended for saying that?…Ooooookay….”

In my mind I’m thinking 1), that comment is not even worthy of a two week suspension, there are worst things he could have said, and 2), yeah, suspension’s gonna teach Mr. Imus a lesson all right (in the listeners’ department that is! $$$$$$$).

“…This double standard should not exist. Are we too afraid to turn the tables on this whole debate?”

I say let’s try to turn the tables on all of this double standard thing. It’s getting to be ridiculous.
