I normally don’t post so quickly after a Feline Friday but I really wanted to get these up before I went for a bike ride.

These are two little photo gifts for Rah-Bop and Raveness and any other bird lovers! I took these two pictures in Manito Park here in Spokane.

Ok I know this has to be a hummingbird. It had a red throat which you can’t see in the picture. I have never seen one perch before. There was a little half ball of weeds in the same tree, a nest maybe?

Is it a great blue heron? It was big, I am not use to seeing birds that big in the middle of the Spokane, park or not. Right after I took this picture it caught a fish, of course my camera battery died then (though I did take around 200 pictures that day so that is not surprising.) The bird flew off at that point, the feathers along the edge of its wings were dark blue. It was very majestic.

    That is indeed a Great Blue Heron! Handsome one at that.

    Your little Hummer is adoreable. Perhaps a Calliope.

    Nice pictures. I saw my first GBH’s this week catching fish. Hummingbirds are about 3″ long and the little grey bird seems bigger than that to me. But it is hard to tell without something else for scale. You have different birds on the west side of the continent that we do here in Ontario.
