Toddler-Induced Quandary

EXHIBIT A:
Damian
Toddler. Bored Toddler. Loki Spawn. Mischievous Toddler.
Resist the cuteness, RESIST!

EXHIBIT B:
vent
Air intake vent for central air. It doesn’t open (the wall is conveniently built over it) and has one inch holes.

Guess where everything Damian could find that is an inch or less in diameter can be found? Art markers, nail clippers, Damian’s toothbrush, two sticks, Cheerios, paper, my brain, three spoons… Obviously the answer to preventing this is to never let anything smaller then an inch touch the floor (haha!) But the question of the hour is how do I get the stuff down there out?

Ideas?

A tiny vacuum cleaner attachment? A powerful magnet for the metal stuff? (Caswallon’s idea)
I think this is one of the best blogs I’ve ever read :) .

Perhaps one of those hand-held vacuum cleaners, “dust busters”(?), whatever they’re called…

(by the way, congrats! I’ve just noticed the counter :D )

The problem is, the drop from the grate to the duct is about 18 inches, so nothing I have vacuum-wise has enough suction to move anything at that distance.

Thanks by the way! We wanted to see how long it would take people to notice it. :-P

Bend a wire coat hanger with some strong tape or a magnet attached? Also, WHO would build a wall over a vent, wtf?? (Not you, obviously, lol)

I don’t know how you would get them out, but I would consider putting some fine screening on top of it to prevent further drops.

Cover it over completely until fall when you need it again.
By that time he will be in a different phase.
    You hope

a long thin instrument of some kind with something sticky at the end. Like those sticky tacks you use for putting posters up on the wall.

    power tools?

But first, congratulations.. I didn’t notice before because well, I check your journal entries on my livejournal, unless I comment on it.

As for the grate.. I think actually cutting a hole in it temporarily to take the stuff out and then closing it up by putting something on top of it, might be the quickest and easiest solution..

He is so cute! As for getting the stuff out you might try and rig a magnet of some kind and pull it out.
