She slept in a cradle next to my bed and for us, it worked. My youngest though hated the cradle and for those first few months, before I was ready to move her into her own room/crib, we used a combination of co-sleeping and letting her sleep in her infant seat (which she adored). Those brief months were I would wake up with my baby in my arms are a particularly happy memory for me. It has to be done safely, and as you mention with an awareness of if your own nighttime habits allow it to be such, but it is so rewarding. I didn’t cosleep with my oldest at all.
