Beltane Weekend

120/365: Beltane Altar
This weekend we celebrated Beltane. It has been less then sunny these past few days, so Damian and I made some simple decorations, like the rainbow butterfly garlands above our family altar. We also did some Spring cleaning, my little guy loves to help me clean. I love that! Ivy has been focusing all her energy into forward movement, she can wiggle forward about two feet now before needing to rest, so cute! She is going to have crawling down in no time.
Beltane Morning
Michael had to go into work for a few hours on Saturday morning but when he came home, we gave the children their Beltane gift. I dye 30×30″ playsilks, one red, one blue and one yellow, for them. I also left one white. So far they have been peekaboo cloths, super hero caps, pretty streamers to wave around, tablecloths for the nature table, they were even used for juggling by our friends who came over later in the day (play is not just for kids!) If you have ever spent any time around young children, you know that the most simple objects are the ones that are the most full of possibilities. That is why I chose playsilks their Beltane gift. Summer is all about play, bright colors and simple joy. I am tempted to make ones in the secondary colors (and black) for Summer Solstice to complete the rainbow.
Damian & Caswallon
As mentioned earlier, our friends came over in the afternoon and we celebrated Caswallon’s birthday. I made a stir fry, Shannon brought the drinks and Andrea made waffle cake (yum!) Later I made popcorn and we watched a movie. It was a really wonderful day.

And a truly horrid night! Damian woke up screaming and holding his stomach. Indigestion like I’ve never seen before. The tears lasted for over an hour before he fell asleep in my arms, I brought him to our bed and rubbed his back whenever he woke up, but he still woke up crying on and off until 4. Then we finally got some real sleep, till 6:30 at leasdt, when Ivy woke for the day. I snuck out pf the bedroom to let Damian sleep.

Bad sleep aside, Sunday was fun. Once everyone was awake, I made apple Dutch babies for breakfast and at 11 Andrea came over to babysit. Michael and I went on a date. We saw Clash of the Titans and ate out. I loved original but I also quite liked the new one too because it was so different. My favorite part was the little part with the owl, that felt like a hat tip and a little jab to the fans of the original. It is so nice to get out with Michael and for us to spend time alone together. When we came home we just relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. Last night was a good night, no tummy aches, just good catch up sleep.

There is nothing like a great weekend to set the stage for the week. Life is so full of possibilities. Blessed Beltane!

Michael’s Birthday Party

107/365: Birthday
Though his birthday is not officially until Wednesday, we had Michael’s party this past Saturday. The morning started off with some rain but it warmed and cleared up beautifully in the afternoon. Enough so that I even put a couple inches of water in Damian’s pool for him to splash around in.

We grilled burgers and Andrea made a chocolate and vanilla birthday cake. We loaded it up with 27 candles (rather then just the 2 and 7) and wow, what a little blaze. Yes, we have a thing for fire.
Michael's Birthday Gift
Which is also reflected in the gift to my husband. All our friends pitched together and we bought him a firepit. After dark it is especially lovely with the flames shining through the celestial shaped cutouts.

The children seemed to enjoy the party too. We very nearly had to have an auction for who was going to snuggle with Ivy next. Rachelle (8-years-old) came over with her mom and Damian had fun following her around. Shadra brought her new dog, Casey, and Damian was beside himself with puppy love (as was I, she was such a sweetie!) We had to set up the Supergate around the barbecue to keep Damian’s hands away, but he seemed to have a natural respect for the flames in the firepit so that did not need to be blocked off.

I love a reason to have a party and a birthday is probably one of the best excuses ever. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and I know Michael had fun, which is ultimately what makes me smile the most. I’ll save the mushy birthday post for Wednesday but happy birthday Michael! I love you.

Camping Recap

This weekend we had our second annual trip with friends up to South Skookum Lake. True to form (we will see if this repeats next year!) we had a small hiccup early on[1] that caused our plans to shift somewhat. When we arrived at South Skookum Lake on Friday evening, it should have been closed, it was not. The camp host was still on the grounds and she insisted that we could not camp there. This is not technically true since you can always camp in National Forest campgrounds, whether the road to them is open or not. This is why we camp there, we have the place basically to ourselves and the only cost is having to hike in our stuff. As we spoke to her the truth of why she did not want us there came out, it was her birthday and she had friends in the grounds for a party. At this point we were tired of arguing (and I for one did not want to be kept up all night by some drunken birthday party) so we left. Next year we are going to see about obtaining permission directly from the forest service so that that does not happen again.
